Polk County Sheriff Tadman Shares Comments on Recording of Law Enforcement Encounters
Fosston, MN — In this day and age of cellphones, everyone has a camera in the pocket and the ability to record what’s happening. And also at a time when there is a lot of mistrust towards law enforcement, those cell phones have become an important piece of evidence if someone’s rights are being violated. Polk County Sheriff Jim Tadman says he doesn’t mind if people are videotaping an incident, but it become a serious issue when they don’t give him or his officers space during their encounters and traffic stops.
While there are no laws against in Minnesota, Arizona recently passed a law that makes it illegal to film law enforcement encounters within 8 feet of distance, with the exception the person recording is the person being questioned.
