Proposition 12 and how it will affect area pork producers
Many pork producers across the state of Minnesota are wondering how much Proposition 12 will affect the industry and their well being after it was upheld by the United States Supreme Court this past May. Former Minnesota Pork Producers Executive Board member Paul FitzSimmons explains what Proposition 12 is.
FitzSimmons also explained how it will affect Minnesota Pork Producers.
FitzSimmons also gave his opinion on the Proposition
Alex Barrick of Barrick Family Farm also discussed how it could affect his farm and other farms across the nation.
Proposition 12 has been in a lengthy legal battle since it was passed back in 2018 by the State of California (who’s the largest pork market in the world) and has received opposition from many parties including the California Pork Producers Association, PETA, National Pork Producers Council, and countless other pork producers across the country. President Joe Biden has also backed the Proposition 12 opposition. Producers who do not become Proposition 12 compliant will not be able to have their product sold in California.
