Mahnomen, MN — It was two years ago yesterday that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order that temporarily closed Minnesota schools for 8 days, and following that schools were forced to go into distance learning for the rest of the year as the COVID-19 pandemic began. Over the next two years there would be waves of variants and different learning models, but it appears now we are finally moving out of the pandemic stage and back to normal. Mahnomen School Superintendent Jeff Bisek reflects back on those early times during the pandemic and how they’re moving forward.

Also for the past couple years, many community organizations have had to put their events and fundraisers on hold due to restrictions or safety reasons, but now appear to be coming back in full force as evident by the number of pancake breakfasts and community events. Michael Bare is an active member of both the Halstad Fire Department and the Halstad Lions. He says those events and fundraisers play a big role in small towns and its nice to see them return.

The Halstad Fire Department is hosting their first annual mixed this Saturday, March 19th at the Halstad LRC.
