Rainy Lake Medical Center officials this week announced signing a letter of intent to purchase
and acquire City Drug Store.
The signed letter has full support of both RLMC officials and Gary Anderson, owner of City
Drug. While an agreement isn’t expected to be finalized for 6-12 months, Robb Pastor, RLMC
CEO, and Anderson both said they’re excited for the future.
“We’re honored to continue the legacy of City Drug that the Anderson family has built in this
community,” Pastor said. “We understand the dedication of City Drug’s loyal customers for
more than 100 years, and look forward to continuing that same great service.”
City Drug, owned by multiple generations of the Anderson family, has been a staple on Third
Street in International Falls since 1916. Anderson said his father purchased the business in 1957,
and after 66 years, Anderson said he is looking forward to the next chapter in the business’s
history.
“I’m excited to work with Rainy Lake Medical Center to explore ways to continue the same
quality of care and hopefully expand services to the people of our community,” Anderson said,
adding he will continue working for the business following the sale. “I like to take care of people
and it’ll be nice to work for RLMC.”
Pastor said after the purchase is finalized, business at City Drug will remain status quo.
“City Drug has an experienced, knowledgeable team of employees who we’re excited to
welcome into the RLMC family,” Pastor said.
RLMC’s board of trustees and executive team are eager for the future and appreciate the
partnership with Anderson and other City Drug leaders.
“RLMC has the community’s best interests in mind with this new venture, and we are pleased to
keep this business under local leadership,” Pastor said. “The board of trustees and executive team
cannot reiterate enough our excitement for the next chapter.”
