RSV Impacting the Community
Ada, MN — Sickness is making its rounds through the community and in a variety of different forms. While that’s not new coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, COVID is perhaps of least concern at the moment. Nurse Tracy Johnson of Norman-Mahnomen Public Health says of all the different illnesses impacting the community right now, RSV seems to be impacting children the most.
Johnson says RSV in adults and older youth is usually relatively mild, but it hits the youngest children the hardest because of their small airways and lung capacity.
And with everyone having access to COVID-19 vaccinations, Johnson notes that schools are now treating COVID like all the other forms of illness. If you’re sick, stay home. If you feel good, go to work or school.
Boosting your immunity can go a long way in helping fight off many of these illnesses, according to Johnson, and you can do so by doing your best to live a healthy lifestyle.
