Safe Sleep Week
This week is Infant Safe Sleep Week in Minnesota….and the State Department of Health is encouraging parents to learn about the best ways to keep babies sleeping safely. Kathy Moore, communications coordinator for the child and family health division at the Department of Health, tells us how many infants die in their cribs each year in Minnesota.
Moore says the best way for your baby to sleep is in a crib, on its back, alone.
Moore also says research has shown that bed-sharing raises the risk of a baby’s injury or death. And that the risk of sleep-related death increases five to ten times when sleeping on the same surface with someone else when an infant is under four months of age.
