Several Big Projects on the Horizon for Mahnomen County in 2023
Mahnomen, MN — Mahnomen County will continue the planning process for two potential major projects in 2023: A new hospital and a new jail. The new hospital and nursing home has been in the planning stages for the last few years. They were hoping to be building it already, but at nearly $40 million the project is dependent on support from a bonding bill, which didn’t happen last year. But with a new legislature and an even bigger budget surplus, Mahnomen County Administrator CJ Holl is hopeful they can get the project moving forward.
And the planning to potentially build a new Mahnomen County jail will get underway this year as well. Holl says from a financial standpoint it makes sense, but they will be hiring a consultant to determine the rest of the feasibilities and what type and size of jail they would need.
Administrator Holl did note that because operating a full-service jail may be difficult, the new jail would likely be a temporary holding facility, which would be much easier to staff.
Mahnomen County is also looking at completing another $300,000 in courthouse renovations in 2023 as well.
