Several Projects in the Works for Polk County Environmental Services
Fosston, MN — Polk County Commissioner Joan Lee joined the KKCQ Food for Thought Program last week where she provided a number of updates on the Polk County Environmental Services Department and the projects they are working on. The Polk County Commission recently approved a bid to repair the Incinerator stack for just under $90,000. Lee says it was damaged in a wind storm this spring.
They hope to have the repairs done at the end of July or early August.
Polk County Environmental Services is also looking to add another cell to their landfill, but in order to do that they need to purchase and install a 40,000 gallon tank to hold the runoff leeched water. However, with the supply chain issues, Commissioner Lee says they’ve had struggles in acquiring a tank in a timely manner.
In general, throughout the various Polk County Departments, Lee notes that they’ve had to adjust how they budget for various equipment and facility updates because how much harder it is to get supplies and how much more expensive they’ve gotten.
Polk County Environmental Services is also struggling to fully staff their recycling plant and in order to fill some of that demand, Lee says they are looking into purchasing robots to help sort the recyclables.
The Polk County Board of Commissioners meets on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday of each month.
