Sugar Beet Planting Begins

Sugar beet growers are starting to plant this year’s crop.  According to American Crystal Sugar as of Monday, 553 acres have been planted in the Hillsboro area, with another 264 acres planted in Crookston and 208 in East Grand Forks.  A thousand acres in total may sound like a lot, but growers for American Crystal Sugar plant almost 408,000 acres of sugar beets each year.  And nothing has been planted yet in the Moorhead and Drayton areas.
