Tate Petry of MN Wheat Growers Talks Climate Policy While at Commodity Classis
Orlando, FL — The annual Commodity Classic, America’s largest farmer-led, farmer-focused agricultural and educational experience is underway in Orlando, Florida with many local agricultural leaders in attendance. Included in that is Tate Petry, Secretary/Treasurer of the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers. Petry also serves on the National Association of Wheat Growers Environment and Policy subcommittee. With a lot of changes in policy coming to address climate change and the environment, he says their very diverse committee has some big tasks ahead of them.
There ‘s a lot of discussion around the upcoming Farm Bill at this year’s Commodity Classic with the current bill expiring at the end of September. Petry says it’s important that they stay on top of policy updates and continue to provide input while its being formed.
Petry adds that there’s a push for more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the upcoming farm bill, practices in which many farmers are already utilizing when economically viable.
