Volunteers Are The True Stars of Hillsboro Stars and Stripes Program
Hillsboro, ND — More than 550 flags will be on display at homes and businesses in the Hillsboro community this Memorial Day through the Hillsboro Stars and Stripes program, and it’s all thanks to the dozens of volunteers who are up at the crack of dawn to install the flags and remove them at the end of the day. Paul Geray, Stars and Stripes coordinator, chatted with R & J News during the Hillsboro Community Day broadcast on Wednesday on how different groups work together to install flags to subscribers before most are even awake.
For the groups who volunteer to set up the flags during the seven holidays and festivals, its not only a patriotic duty, but it also helps them financially. Geray notes that they have donated thousands of dollars back to those groups from the $35 annual fee collected from Stars and Stripes subscribers.
In addition to Memorial Day, flags are installed on Armed Forces Day, Flag Day, Hillsboro Days, Independence Day, Patriot Day, and Veterans Day. Learn more by visiting the Hillsboro Stars and Stripes Facebook page.
