Voyageurs Baseball Sets Bats Ablaze in Sophomore Day Doubleheader

The Voyageurs Baseball team played a pair of doubleheaders against MNC-Vermilion the weekend of May 3rd-4th. They were first on the road on Saturday for the first doubleheader, and in game 1 the Voyageurs couldn’t catch up in a 19-13 loss. Preston Dyok started the game, giving up 7 hits and 8 runs. Ian Becker led the team with 3 hits, 3 runs, and 2 RBIs as the third baseman went 3-for-4 batting. Austin Jackson-Anderson was 2-for-4 with 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs.

The Rainy River Voyageurs Baseball team took down Vermilion 8-5 in Saturday’s game 2. Collin Haymond earned the win giving up eight hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking one. Christian Cortes, Rainy River’s number nine hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats.

In game 1 of Sunday’s home doubleheader, Ian Becker hit two home runs and drove in three, but Rainy River Voyageurs lost to the Vermilion Ironhawks 11-7. Becker homered in the seventh and fifth innings. Despite the loss, the Voyageurs did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair, but unfortunately, Vermilion had nine hits on the way to victory. Archer Westgarth pitched four innings in relief, the right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and two runs (zero earned) while striking out two and walking two. Johnny Lopez took the loss, he threw two innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking three. Tanner Aros and Ian Becker each collected two hits as Chavez Kanakaole led with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game.

In Sunday’s game 2, Vermilion kept adding on runs in a 6-0 victory over the Voyageurs Baseball team, with Joshua Barrios taking the loss. The starter went five innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits, striking out six and walking three. Austin Jackson-Anderson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Rainy River Voyageurs in hits.

The Voyageurs Baseball team had honored their graduating Sophomores before Sunday May 4th’s doubleheader. The following Sophomores were recognized for their dedication put into the team:
