2nd Annual Guns N’ Hoses Charity game won by team Law Enforcement!
Tuesday night, March 5th, was the 2nd annual Guns N’ Hoses charity hockey game between the Law Enforcement team and the Fire & Ambulance team. Team Law Enforcement made up of members of the International Falls Police Department, Koochiching County Sheriff Office, Minnesota State Patrol/Department of Natural Resources, and the Border Patrol.
The game was an absolute barn-burner that came down to the wire as the first period would be won by team Fire Department as it would end with them leading 1-0 after an early goal by Chase Bernard. They would then extend their lead going into the second period as Wyatt Boyum would score unassisted making it 2-0 for the Fire Department, but team Law Enforcement wouldn’t be completely out of it as they would go on to score three-straight to take the lead. Those goals were each scored by Brent Olson, Keith Magler, and Chuck Saari. Then, team Fire Department would finally respond with Chase Bernard scoring his second goal tying up the game 3-3 as the second period ends. The third period was nothing short of exciting as once again it would be team Fire & Ambulance striking first as Mike Fisher reclaimed their lead in the game, but then it would be Colin Kostuik of KCSO who would dive to score into an empty net. Then, it would be Michael Bounds scoring the game-winner with 1:10 left in the 3rd, and that will make Team Law Enforcement the winner of the 2nd annual Guns N’ Hoses Charity Game. The final score was 5-4, and a special shoutout goes out to Fire Chief Adam Mannausau who had 4 minutes of penalty time in the box.
The proceeds from the game went to ISD 361 to support youth sports participation for those in K-12 who qualify for free or reduced lunches. The day before the game we had brought in Chief Mannausau and Officer Perryn Hedlund of the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office in the station to talk about the game and had the following to say.
As always, thank you to our sponsors!
