United Way Project Update – Veteran’s Oral History

October 30, 2024 News News -- KSDM-KGHS 0

A couple months ago, the United Way of NE MN helped with bringing The Wall That Heals to the Iron Range. That partnership had sparked the idea of a oral history project called Operation: Service Story, and Elizabeth Kelly of United Way came in to the studio to talk about it’s progress.

Their first step had been finding the interviewers along with the interviewees.

She then talked about the start of the project, and how they got the individuals who would be interviewed.

What’s the outcome that United Way hopes to achieve through this project?

Elizabeth Kelly then gave us an estimated finish to the project, along with other potential ideas included with the project.

So with 4 of the interviews done, Elizabeth was asked if the editing process has begun while the other interviews are being conducted.

We were also given a rundown on the staff as this project involves numerous hands playing a part in putting it to notion.

That assurence of comfort for the Veterans they’re interviewing is another aspect that makes this project so meaningful. Elizabeth also let us know that United Way will also be delivering meal kits to veterans in need in Koochiching County once again this December. So refer a veteran in need! Homebound or facing financial hardship, call Veterans Service office in the Falls.

There will also be a Veterans Retreat January 17-19 at the Grand Ely Lodge, and for more information contact John Kriesel of United Way for more information.
