Jackpine Savage Opens vs Hibbing
The Jackpine Savages opened their summer season at Troy Janzen Field playing against Hibbing yesterday. In game one, after gaining a 2-0 lead the Savages would avoid a walk-off loss and tie with Hibbing 2-2. Ellie Wendt stepped first in the circle to pitch, throwing eight strikeouts in seven innings. Avery Larson led at the plate, getting two hits and batting in one run. Anie Peterson would also get a pair of hits in the low-scoring affair.
Then, for game two the Jackpine Savages would score 8 runs in the sixth inning to come away with a 14-9 win over the Hibbing Bluejackets. Kora Gustafson stepped in the circle first for the Savages for the win, throwing three strikeouts, and Ellie Wendt stepped in for relief. Anie Peterson would lead at the plate for Jackpine with 4 hits and use fancy footwork to make her way around the bases 3 times. Their next game will be tomorrow where they’ll scrimmage against the Bordertown Blaze at Troy Janzen Field with first pitch at 9am.
