Falls Elementary School is asking for community support to help stock its nurses office with extra clothing for students in need.
The school is currently collecting gently used or new pants, including leggings, jeans, and sweatpants, in youth sizes 4/5, 7/8, and 10/12.
All donated items should be clean and free of stains, rips, or holes.
Donations can be dropped off at the main entry of Falls Elementary School.
For more information, you can contact the school’s nurses office.
Community members are encouraged to contribute and help ensure students have access to essential clothing throughout the school day.
Local law enforcement is inviting families to get outside and stay safe this weekend, as a community bike safety event returns to International Falls.
The Bike Rodeo takes place Saturday from 11 to 1 at Kerry Park, featuring free helmets, bike tune-ups, and safety tips for riders of all ages. Police Chief Scott Wherley and Koochiching County Sheriff Perryn Hedland say the event is especially timely, as more residents take to the roads and trails this spring.
Officials say e-bikes are a growing trend—and a growing safety concern—with state law prohibiting riders under 15. Authorities are also reminding drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to stay alert and share the road.
Meanwhile, with warmer weather arriving, officials urge residents to check bike gear, wear helmets, and prepare boats and trailers ahead of the upcoming lake season.
Authorities say taking a few precautions now can help ensure a safe and enjoyable summer season for everyone.
A new recovery and wellness program is coming to the community. The United Native Friendship Centre is offering a 12-week Wellbriety Medicine Wheel and 12 Steps for Men program, designed to support personal healing through a culturally grounded approach.
The bi-weekly evening sessions begin Monday, May 4th, running from 5 to 7 p.m. The program blends traditional Medicine Wheel teachings with a 12-step framework, aimed at supporting Indigenous men at any stage of their recovery journey.
Those interested can register by calling 807-274-8541, or by contacting program coordinators Tammy Brown-Idrissou or Nikki Perreault.
Organizers say the program is open to anyone looking to strengthen their path toward wellness and recovery.
The International Falls Chamber of Commerce is reminding the community that the annual Chamber Gala is happening tonight at the Thunderbird.
The evening will feature a social hour, dinner, awards, along with raffles and a silent auction packed with prizes.
Attendees are encouraged to come prepared, with plenty of opportunities to take part in raffles and bid on auction items.
The event is made possible by a wide range of local sponsors and donors, highlighting strong community support.
And organizers say it’s also a chance to give back by supporting local businesses.
The Chamber Gala begins with a social hour this evening, followed by dinner and awards.
