The Crookston City Council met last night to discuss several major infrastructure developments and administrative updates across the city.

A central topic of discussion was the major downtown corridor project. Mayor Dale Stainbrook broke down the estimated cost of the project and outlined how state funding and grant opportunities could significantly reduce the city’s out-of-pocket expenses.

Mayor Stainbrook also addressed long-pending adjustments to utility rates. He noted that the council had previously approved water and sewer rate changes two decades ago that were never fully implemented, necessitating a rate update to take effect.

Turning to the regular meeting agenda, Mayor Stainbrook provided further details on the scope of work planned for the downtown corridor, including sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping changes, as well as the project’s expected timeline.

Finally, during the Ways and Means committee session, the council discussed filling the vacant marketing director role. Mayor Stainbrook explained that following the previous director’s resignation, the city is weighing whether to seek a full-time professional or partner with local university students.

The next Crookston City Council meeting is scheduled for November 2nd.
