Tight Race Projected In Clearwater County For Sheriff
Clearwater County early absentee voting tallies are showing after nearly 2,000 votes have been counted (according to https://elections.mpr.org/2026-08-11/county/27029 ) that the race may be one of if not the tightest race in the area. With 2 options officially on the ballot and officially 4 candidates that have campaigned and received votes there is a much closer current share of the early votes than we are seeing in any other Clearwater County race.
3 candidates all currently sit at between 28-35% each of the, as of writing, 1,951 early counted votes which makes one wonder how much chaos could ensue in the race when in-person ballots are cast and counted as this evening goes along. Darin Halverson announced back in January he would be retiring at the end of the year and not seek re-election after serving in the role for the past 11 years and serving in law enforcement for a total of 34 years.
With Halverson’s retirement the door was opened for multiple parties to make a run at this years election and it looks like a down-to-the-wire race is what we will get as a result.
