White Earth Nation’s Annual Ice Fishing Derby Heads to Strawberry Lake
White Earth, MN — White Earth Public Safety and White Earth Natural Resources invite all to participate in their 2nd annual White Earth Nation Ice Fishing Derby this Saturday, February 5th on Strawberry Lake. The event will run from 11am and 3pm and participants are asked to use the Christian Retreat Access located on the west side of the lake just off County Road 34 on 342nd St. Event organizer Dusty Roy says they started this event last year as a way to provide something fun and safe during the pandemic.
The entry fee for the derby is just $10, but 16 and under are free, and participants can also buy $5 raffle tickets. Along with cash prizes for the biggest fish, Roy says anglers have a chance to win some of the thousands of dollars’ worth of door prizes.
Kids will also receive $10 cash for their first fish entered for the first 250 entries. Door prize and tournament winners will be announced during the event on Gold 101.5 KRJM.
Enrolled White Earth members must follow tribal fishing regulations and non-members must follow state regulations. There is a four hole limit per person. No drugs or alcohol are permitted.
