Fosston School Board Notes
During their regular monthly meeting on May 19th, the Fosston School Board accepted the resignation of High School Principal Dominic Krump, effective June 30th, 2022. The board has completed the applicant interview process and are awaiting acceptance from the person they have selected for the position. Baird Financial consultants gave a presentation to the board regarding the operating referendum. They reported the district is in good financial shape right now with the federal funding they have received. However, those federal funds will be running out. If the district wishes to continue providing opportunities for students such ag and FFA and maintaining high quality instruction and staff an operating referendum is in the near future as Superintendent Sue Chase explains.
The school board accepted a donation of $6,500 from Fosston Tri Coop to go toward new playground equipment at Magelssen Elementary. The board approved the purchase of the playground equipment and installation in the amount of $62,204.00 from Midwest Landscapes. The current playground has surpassed its life expectancy according to Superintendent Chase.
Elementary Student leaders reported on their very successful Pennies for Pencils fundraiser which raised almost $5,000 for school supplies next year.
In staff notes, the board granted continuing contract status to Ellen Bolduc, District Social Worker and Early Childhood Coordinator Linette Schwartz. They also approved hiring Emma Viken as Summer School Preschool Teacher and accepted the resignation of High School Para-Educator Andrew Juve. They also accepted a donation of $300 from R&J Broadcasting for having the most nominations in the Good Student Award program.
