Ogema Fire Department Hosting 15th Annual Eelpout Festival
Ogema, MN — The Ogema Fire Department invites you to join them on the hard water this weekend for their 15th annual Eel Pout Festival out of Cedar Crest Resort on White Earth Lake. The event will get underway at noon on Saturday and wrap up at noon on Sunday. Ogema Fire Chief Jordan McArthur says there will be chances to win cash and prizes with your entry and cash for the top fish as well.
As for the Eelpout, they are a slimy, but tasty fish that aren’t incredibly hard to catch. McArthur says make sure to leave your rattle reels down at night for the best chance at catching one.
The Ogema Fire Department will be available throughout most of the night to weigh-in fish.
Anglers should have no issues finding a place to fish this weekend on White Earth Lake. Cedar Crest Resort has been plowing lots of roads and parking spots and much of the lake is pretty accessible even off the road as well.
Money raised from this event will go back to supporting the needs of the Ogema Fire Department, such as replacing their old fire houses and breathing apparatuses, according to McArthur.
Even if you are unable to participate, you can still buy tickets for a chance to win prizes. Tickets are $20 and are available at Cedar Crest, M & W Stores, Ogema Liquor Store, or by contacting a member of the Ogema Fire Department.
