Ada-Borup-West School Board Tackles Staffing Items During Regular Board Meeting
Ada, MN — The Ada-Borup-West School Board held their regular monthly board meeting on Tuesday morning, May 10th where the majority of the discussion revolved around staff contracts and new hires for the 2022-2023 school year. A few of those staffing items did spur some debate amongst the board, one of those being the District Administrator and Assessment Coordination position held by Deane Flom. Ada-Borup-West School Board Chair Gretchen Rockstad says there was differing viewpoints from the board and staff over whether or not that position was needed, but the board ultimately approved a 2-year contract for Flom on 5-3 vote.
Rockstad, Barb Spilde, and Jana Engel voted against the contract. Peter Jacobson, Lucas Spaeth, Faye Delong, Dena Bishop, and Nancy Merkens voted in favor.
The board also discussed, but did not take action on, an extended leave of absence request by Lisa Thompson. The requested leave of absence would begin this fall and last 3 to 5 years, but because the request is not a common, Rockstad says they tabled it until they could learn more about their options.
There were also a number of new staffing hires at this week’s meeting. The board approved the hiring of four new teachers and guidance counselor on Tuesday morning. Rockstad notes that it’s good to have those positions hired ahead of next fall.
The Ada-Borup-West School Board did accept the resignations school counselor Amanda Brown, Elementary Teacher, elementary teacher Taylor Gunnufson, and special education teacher Melissa Larson. Superintendent Aaron Cook was not present at the meeting due to personal reasons.
Elementary Principal Bree Triplet and Board Member Faye DeLong will join the KRJB Kaleidoscope Program this Wednesday morning at 9am to further recap the meeting.
