Aitkin County Board meeting from April 12th

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners held public hearings on Tax-Forfeited Lands and Redistricting of Commissioner Districts from the Government Center Board Room on Tuesday, April 12th.
County Auditor Kirk Peysar spoke before Commissioners on Liquor and Beer License expiration dates to be uniformly set for December 31st.
The Board approved synchronizing the dates for Beer and Liquor License dates for December 31st. County Engineer John Welle presented a resolution to award a contract to KGM Contractors, Inc for resurfacing work throughout Aitkin County.
The Board approved the bid for the contract at an estimated cost of $2,652,996.90, and requests to apply for Congressionally Directed Spending for broadband expansion to provide transitional services and support to people with substance and/or mental health needs.
Moving onto the Public Hearing for the Tax-Forfeited Land, Land Commissioner Dennis Thompson gave background on what happens once the land has been forfeited.
Approval was given with the resolution on Land Classification of the Tax Forfeited Land. In the other Public Hearing, concerning the Redistricting of Commissioner Districts, Auditor Peysar returned to outline the plan after the numbers were tabulated from the Census and moves from the State Legislature.
The Board approved the redistricting as well as setting the election terms, which opens District 1, 3, and 5 being open for Election this Fall.
The Board did approve Search and Rescue donations from Haugen and Pliny Townships, Minnewawa Sportsmen’s Club and a donation to the Long Lake Conservation Center from the Minnewawa Sportsmen’s Club.
The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners next meeting is set for April 26th at 9am from the Government Center Board Room.
