(Aitkin, MN) — Beyond the normal recreation on Lakes in Aitkin County, visitors and local residents will soon be flocking lakes to harvest Minnesota’s state grain, wild rice.

In our most recent conversation with Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida, the high waters that have receded in the last month have led to wild rice to be ready for harvest.

Even with enforcement of harvesting not being a high priority for the Sheriff’s Office, the safety of harvesters is a top concern.
