Aitkin School Board meeting from September 19th

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board held their regular meeting Monday night from the High School Media Center to appoint replacements for a vacant School Board position, Chairperson and Vice Chairpersons, with other matters covering the start of the 2022-23 school year.
Following the Public Comment Period, JET – Office of Job Training, spoke about the Career Fair scheduled for Wednesday, September 21st which will have area schools and businesses attending.
Area colleges will also be attending the Interactive Career Fair. The Board approved the second reading of policies including Credit for Learning and Grading; Equal Employment Opportunity; Disability Nondiscrimination; Discipline, Suspension, Dismissal of School District Employees; Employment Background Checks, and Veteran’s Preference. Approval was also given for the proposed 2022 Payable 2023 Levy at Maximum, which Business Manager Heather Hipp spoke further
The Levy was set at the maximum of 2.68% with the Truth in Taxation Hearing for December 19th at 6pm. Superintendent Dan Stifter explained the process of filling the vacant Board seat and the most eligible candidates.
The Board nominated Brain Leitinger and approved his appointment on a 4-1 vote. Superintendent Stifter also spoke of the Board’s duty to appoint a Chair and Vice Chair.
Rippleside Elementary Principal Andy Dokken highlighted the start of the school year in his Principal’s Report.
Aitkin High School Principal Lisa DeMars echoed the same sentiment.
The Aitkin School Board will hold their next regular meeting on Monday, October 17that 6:30pm from the Aitkin High School Media Center.
