Area Law Enforcement Officers React to Death of Norman County Sheriff Jeremy Thornton
Mahnomen, MN — Following the death of Norman County Sheriff Jeremy Thornton, who passed away last week at the age of 53 after a short and intensive battle with pancreatic cancer, area law enforcement agencies are reaching out to show their support for their fellow officer. Mahnomen County Sheriff Josh Guenther says he can relate to how the deputies and staff of the Norman County Sheriff’s Office are feeling as their department lost their former Sheriff Doug Krier to cancer just shortly after he retired.
Twin Valley Police Chief Jason Douville says the loss of Sheriff Thornton isn’t just a loss for the Sheriff’s Department, but a loss for the county and the entire law enforcement community.
Douville has had the privilege of working alongside Sheriff Thornton in various capacities for more than twenty years. He says Jeremy was the quiet type but was always listening and made his words count.
Sheriff Guenther notes that his experiences with Jeremey were always pleasant.
The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office has offered to supply officers and dispatchers to fill in Norman County this week so that their deputies and staff can attend the funeral, which will be held this Wednesday, January 11th at 3pm at the Ada-Borup-West High School.
