Boat or Not, Many Opportunities for Beginning Fisherman in Minnesota
Minnesota, MN — One of the great things about the fishing tradition in the State of Minnesota is that it’s a past-time that is easily accessible by all. While your neighbor or friend might be hitting the water in $100,000 boat with another $10,000 worth of fish finding electronics, it’s important to know that you can have just as much fun with a hook and a worm casting from shore. Brad Parsons, Chief of Fisheries with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, says don’t let not having access to a boat deter you from fishing.
If you’re new to fishing, MN DNR Southern Region Fisheries Manager Jack Lauer says don’t be afraid to reach out to more experienced anglers to ask for tips and advice and keep it simple.
Finding a friend who fishes shouldn’t be too hard, as approximately 1 in 5 Minnesota residents own fishing license. And for those experienced anglers, Lauer and Conservation Officer Brent Grewe says it up to you to help pass on the tradition and good conservation practices to those new fisherman and women.
