Celebrate 50 Years of Voyageurs National Park at Rainy Lake Visitor Center
INTERNATIONAL FALLS, MN (June 14, 2025) — Voyageurs National Park is celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout 2025 and the community is invited to join the fun at a family-friendly birthday bash on Saturday, June 14, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. Kate Fenske, the Public Engagement Coordinator for Voyageurs Conservancy, talked to us about the birthday party.
The event is free and open to the public, and while no ticket is required to attend, advance registration is encouraged for planning purposes. Attendees are invited to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a full afternoon of music, creativity and outdoor fun.
Hosted in partnership with Voyageurs Conservancy, Voyageurs National Park, National Parks Conservation Association, Koochiching Historical Society, Rainy Lake Sportsfishing Association and other local organizations, this free event honors five decades of nature, history and community in Minnesota’s only national park.
Event highlights include:
- Live music by local duo Alyssa and Jep Fator (12:30 to 2:00 p.m.)
- A special documentary screening of “There Must be Something in the Water: A History of Controversy in The Falls” and panel discussion hosted by the Koochiching Historical Society (2 to 3 p.m.)
- Free North Canoe rides led by National Park Service Rangers
- Fishing off the Rainy Lake Visitor Center pier, a solar scope station, and other hands-on educational activities
- A community-based art project to create fish windsocks for the International Falls July 4th Parade, where this year’s theme is “Celebrating 50 Years of Voyageurs National Park.”
- 50th Birthday cake
The birthday party for Voyageurs National Park will even extend to the 4th of July parade in International Falls!
Participants in the art project will also have the special opportunity to march alongside Voyageurs National Park in the International Falls 4th of July Parade to showcase their creations and love for the park.
