Exploring PTSD Awareness Month

As we explored the different themes of the month of June, one of those themes is PTSD Awareness Month. Linnea Imhof of the Koochiching County Public Health came into the studio to tell us about it.

As we prepare to explore PTSD Awareness, Linnea gives us a run-down on what PTSD is whether you are or are not already familiar.

About 6% of the U.S. population will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. This means roughly 6 out of every 100 people will be diagnosed with PTSD at some point during their lifetime, according to the Veterans Health Library. While most people who experience a traumatic event don’t develop PTSD, it’s more common in women than men, and veterans are more likely to experience it than civilians.
