Minnesota — Throughout the entire farm season, there is always machinery moving in and out of buildings and trucks going in and out of the yard. With all that commotion, it can be dangerous for small children who are wondering around and not always paying attention. As part of the Minnesota Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee’s goal to promote farm safety, the committee is now selling youth safety vests. These hi-vis safety vests help to promote safe practices on the farm by keeping youth more visible to prevent accidents on the farm. The vests also encourage conversation among youth on the importance of farm safety practice. The vests can be worn over clothing during anytime of the year. Whitney Pittman of the Minnesota Farm Bureau says they can be purchased for just $5, which is small price to pay for additional safety around the farm.

You can order the vests online at www.fbmn.org.

Farm Bureau promotes safety and health in agriculture and rural communities to reduce the number of farm related accidents by promoting safe practices and increasing public awareness of the importance of safety in agriculture. County Farm Bureaus participate and host activities like farm and home safety forums for youth and adults. Safety is an important topic every day of the year.
