IMPACT Coalition Hosts Successful Book Drive this Spring
Ada, MN — The IMPACT Coalition of Norman and Mahnomen Counties conducted a successful book drive earlier this spring, and as a results more than 1,200 books were placed in the hands of students from Naytahwaush Charter School, St. Michael’s Catholic School, Mahnomen Elementary, Waubun Middle School, Norman County East Elementary, and Ada-Borup-West Elementary. Kelsey Merkens, who joined the KRJB Kaleidoscope Program, says the purpose of the book drive was to create positive experiences for area children.
In addition to creating positive experiences, the IMPACT Coalition provided education about ACES, or Adverse Children Experiences, which are traumatic events in a child’s life that can have a negative impacts and how positive experiences, such as a reading a book to your child, can help counter them.
The Impact Coalition is a group of community members from Norman and Mahnomen Counties who work to reduce substance use among youth. The Impact Coalition is also looking for more community members to join their group. Visit their Facebook group for more information.
