The Minnesota D-N-R Enforcement Division is recognizing three conservation officers for their lifesaving work — including Officer Simonson of Koochiching County. On July 21st, Simonson joined the search for 80-year-old Donald Larson, who had gone missing the day before. Larson’s Jeep had gotten stuck on a muddy trail, and he spent a cold, rainy night outside. When Simonson found him, Larson was lying in the mud and water, soaked and covered with flies. Simonson called for an ambulance and drove Larson to safety. Doctors say the quick response almost certainly saved his life. Larson was released from the hospital the next day, telling officers he didn’t think he’d survive the night. The D-N-R says Simonson’s actions are a powerful reminder of the dedication of conservation officers across Minnesota.
