It’s a sure sign of spring at Voyageurs National Park, as all winter trails are now officially closed for the season. Park officials say crews are removing snowmobile trail markers this week, marking the end of winter recreation across the park. All snowmobile trails and ice roads, including Rainy Lake and Kabetogama routes, are now closed.
Some hiking and snowshoe trails remain open, along with limited ski access, but visitors are reminded to use caution—especially as ice conditions continue to change.
Park staff say this will be the final winter trails report of the season, and they’re already looking ahead to welcoming visitors back next winter. For the latest conditions, you can always check the Voyageurs National Park website.

The Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police is thanking the community for a successful Northwest Region Period Campaign.
Through the support of local organizations, partners, and residents, the campaign collected more than 700 boxes of products—totaling over 15-thousand individual items.
Those donations will now go directly to support people in need across the region, including the United Native Friendship Centre, the Atikokan Native Friendship Centre, and the Atikokan Food Bank.
Organizers say the effort helps break down barriers and ensures access to essential everyday items for those who need them most. Officials add that this kind of support shows the true strength of the Rainy River District community.

A local business owner is being recognized for making a big impact in the community.
Zach Manka, owner of The Sports Shop in International Falls, has been named Small Business of the Year by the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
Manka says the recognition came as a complete surprise.

Manka has shown his dedication to youth and his positive impact across the area.
As spring approaches, Manka says the shop is gearing up for a busy season with bikes, baseball, and softball equipment arriving soon.

Manka will be formally honored at an awards gala on April 23rd.
