March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
Fosston, MN — March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and Grant Coauette of Essentia Health in Fosston joined our Access Health Program this weekend to spread awareness about the disease and encourage people to schedule a colonoscopy. Colorectal Cancer is one of the most common occurring cancers in the United States. Coauette says colon cancer is a slow-moving cancer and can be easily treated if detected early, so there’s no reason to fear getting a screening.
Coauette says Colon Cancer is being detected more and more often in younger individuals. Its now recommended that everyone start getting screened around age 45. However, if you have a family history, you may need to get screened earlier.
There are a few different methods for getting screened, but the most common and most reliable form is a colonoscopy, according to Coauette.
