North Dakota Election Day Tuesday

North Dakota Election Day Tuesday

June 9, 2026 News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

This is Election Day in North Dakota.  Polls will be open until 7 tonight with several city and county races on the ballot.

In Traill County, voters will decide on approving a home rule charter. This could allow the county to ask voters to approve a county sales tax, lodging tax or restaurant tax.  Also, the county commission could change some positions from elected to appointed—such as auditor and treasurer.  There’s also an election for Traill County Sheriff, with incumbent Steve Hunt challenged by Sheriff’s Deputy Kelli Tvedt Collins. Three new Traill County Commissioners will be elected today.  In District One, Tom Eblen isn’t seeking another term; Jeramie Quam and John Wright are seeking to replace him.  In District 3, Ken Nesvig is not seeking another term; David Knudsvig and Curt Hong are running for the District 3 seat.  And in District 5, John Amb and Edson Grindeland are running for the seat vacated by Les Amb–the father of John Amb.

Over in Hillsboro, the City Commission Chairman is on the ballot—but with no candidates. It will probably be decided by a write-in candidate.  There are three candidates for two Hillsboro City Commission seats: incumbents Jon Myers and Nicole Evans, along with Justin Jorpeland.

Mayville has the same problem in its mayoral race: no candidates.  Mayor Karl Jorgenson is not running for another term.  Last month, John Mewes announced a write-in campaign for mayor.

And in Hatton, Mayor Stu Letcher is challenged by Mike Munkeby.
