PTSD Awareness Month, And Helping Our Veterans
Continuing to look at PTSD Awareness, in our talk with Linnea Imhof of Koochiching County Public Health she would take special focus on our veterans. A topic which takes personal significance for Linnea.
It is important to focus on the veteran community when addressing PTSD because of the stigmas surrounding it, and because of veterans being the community most often associated with it.
With this serious issue coming to light, Linnea informs us of what is offered to support our local veterans dealing with PTSD.
A self-care strategy is one of the more highly recommended methods of dealing with PTSD, especially for veterans. Part of that self-care strategy can involve getting involved with volunteer work.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has launched a strategic funding initiative aimed at tackling a critical barrier many Veterans face: legal obstacles that lead to or prolong homelessness. The department recently announced the availability of $42 million in grants under the Legal Services for Veterans (LSV) Grant Program, marking a significant expansion of the federal government’s commitment to eradicating Veteran homelessness.
