Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson Comments on Earned Sick & Safe Leave Bill Heading to the Senate
St. Paul, MN — Thursday, the Minnesota House approved legislation authored by Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth) to expand Earned Sick and Safe Time benefits to all Minnesota workers. The bill passed on a vote of 69-54. The legislation would ensure, at a minimum, one hour of paid Earned Sick and Safe Time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours per year. The legislation now advances to the Minnesota Senate where it awaits a hearing in the Finance Committee. Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, who represents District 1, opposes the bill. He says it’s another example of government overreach and it will cripple many small businesses.
Senator Johnson adds that this mandate, along with all the other mandates and high taxes, will drive our businesses across the border to states with a more business-friendly climate such as North Dakota.
