Sheriff Perryn Hedlund on Rainy Lake Basin flooding.
The decision has been made to continue the sandbagging efforts on Sunday and not take a break from the operation. We had hoped to provide volunteers and staff a brief rest before continuing operations on Monday, but the high demand for filled sandbags and the rise in water levels due to the recent rain has forced us to alter our plans.
We have a need for volunteers not only at the Kerry Park operations, but also to place sandbags at residences as needed. The volunteer effort on Friday was able to produce approximately 6,500 filled sandbags with a very limited volunteer pool. We are hopeful that more people are able to volunteer on Saturday and Sunday so we can provide filled bags to residents in need.
Going forward, we will continue the sandbagging operation at Kerry Park everyday from 0800-1800 hours as long as we have the volunteers available. Residents can continue to pick up empty bags at the
Law Enforcement Center and fill up at any of the satellite sites.
