Southbound I-29 Closed At Midday Between Reynolds & Thompson
Interstate 29 was closed for about two hours between Reynolds and Thompson Wednesday after a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper found what appeared to be an explosive. Around 8:40am Wednesday, a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a southbound passenger car for illegal window tint. Based on probable cause, troopers searched the vehicle and found what they believed to be an explosive. The Grand Forks Bomb Squad was called in and southbound I-29 was closed to all traffic just before 11am. Shortly after noon, the device was safely detonated. Southbound I-29 re-opened to traffic around 1pm. The driver, a 41-year-old Fargo man and his passenger, a 42-year-old Fargo man, were both charged with possessing an explosive device, which is a C Felony. The driver was also charged with not having insurance and given a warning for his tinted windows.
