The Lakes Area Music Festival kicks off its fall programming on Friday, September 30 with a concert of vocal jazz and showtunes featuring audience favorite, Broadway soprano Andrea Ross. The performance will take place at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Ross will bring a program of familiar tunes from the Great American Songbook– jazz standards, pop songs and show tunes of the early decades of the 20th century, including Gershwin, Cole Porter, and more.

She performed as ‘Maria’ in the Broadway Tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, and began her career in her hometown of Boston and caught the attention of legendary Broadway composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, who became her mentor. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Universal Music Group: Classics and Jazz, produced Andrea’s solo album, Moon River, which debuted on the Top 50 UK Charts. Ross has been a featured soloist with top symphony orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and KBS Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, South Korea. She first performed at the Lakes Area Music Festival in 2021 with a tribute to Judy Garland, and was featured with the LAMF symphony in songs from West Side Story at the 2022 season-opening gala.

Ross will be joined by jazz pianist Will Kjeer from the Juilliard School in New York City. This concert will also be performed on Saturday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis where the Lakes Area Music Festival returns as Artists in Residence.
