Thunderbird Lodge and Rainy Lake Resort Sells for $3.2M
The Rainy Lake Resort and Thunderbird Lodge are no longer for sale! As announced earlier this week, Rainy Lake’s only year-round resort was just sold for $3.2 million to the duo of Joe Mershon and Jamie Traska. We got in touch with Barry “Woody” Woods of Move It Real Estate Group who was the listing agent for the resort.
Thunderbird Lodge staff have been hired back, the lounge and restaurant are operating at full capacity, and the resort was fully booked over the weekend, Mershon said on Monday. As it will be remaining its reputation as a pillar of the area’s community and identity.
One thing that sticks out about the new owners is their current employment at the Thunderbird Lodge, therefore already having those established roots.
The resort which makes up approximately 60 acres and includes nearly 1200 feet of waterfront on Rainy Lake, covering 220,000 acres and the largest of the 5 major lakes that makes up Voyageur National Park. The best part though, is it keeps from being owned by a Twin Cities-based developer with unclear intentions.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without Woody giving his roses to the previous owners of the resort.
According to Mershon, the resort has changed hands about every decade since it was constructed in 1937. He and Traska hope to stop that trend, as well as expand and upgrade the resort.
