Over on the Rainy River Campus, the Voyageurs Men’s Basketball team opened up 2025 with a conference game at home against Vermillion. The Voyageurs began conference play with a bang as they would beat the Ironhawks 83-56 with three of the leaders being Rodney Mozard, Braedon Gomez, and Samuel Jideofor.

Freshmen Braedon Gomez and Rodney Mozard who both had double-doubles in the victory. Gomez had 21 points going 9-for-11 in shots and 10 rebounds, and Rodney would put up 11 points with 11 rebounds.

Rodney would also have 6 blocks as the main defensive contributor.

With the New Year comes resolutions, and here are the resolutions of your Voyageurs players.

Braedon Gomez was then asked about the primary goals for the remainder of the season.

Samuel Jideofor was close to a double-double with 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Austin Howe would also put up 11 points for the win. He was asked how important these first games AND practices will be for continued success.

The players were also very excited to mention which team they look forward to playing the most.

I then also spoke with Head Coach Ernest Collins about the game and his thoughts.

The Voyageurs play again at home on Saturday with a 1pm tip-off against Northland.
