Waukon Dairy Officially Up and Running
Waukon, MN — The largest dairy in the county and one of the largest in the region is now up and running. The Waukon Dairy, a subsidiary of Riverview LLP, is now up and running and milking cows at their facility along Highway 200 northeast of Twin Valley. The Waukon Dairy began milking their first cows on June 20th and has slowly been adding more and more to the parlor since. Ron Visser, Site Manager for the Waukon Dairy, says it was pretty special moment for all involved to milk that first cow.
The Waukon Dairy will house roughly 10,000 cows when they complete the process of getting them on site. Currently there are just over 8,000 head being milked each day. Visser talks about the transition of bringing in 10,000 head on site over the period of a couple months.
The cows will get milked twice a day, 128 at a time, on their high-tech rotating carousel. Visser runs down the unique process.
All the milk is sent by truck to Bongard’s Creamery in Perham where it is processed into cheese. Listen to the full interview with Ron Visser from the Waukon Dairy during this week’s Farm and Field Show, heard Wednesday’s from 2-5pm on 106.5 KRJB.
