5th Annual Candlelight Ski & Owl Prowl this Saturday at the Rydell National Wildlife Refuge
Erskine, MN — This Saturday night is sure to be a “hoot” at the Rydell National Wildlife Refuge near Erskine as they host their 5th annual Candlelight Ski & Owl Prowl. From 6:30pm until 10pm, visitors can cross country ski, as well as snowshoe or hike, the trails of the refuge to a number or owl calling stations where they can potentially interact and potentially spot some of territorial owls on the refuge, according to Rydell National Wildlife Refuge Manager Gregg Knutsen.
Also new this year, Knutsen says the Visitors Center will be open with refreshments and an indoor owl education station.
And of course, the other unique aspect of this event is the opportunity to ski through the refuge trails by candlelight. Knutsen says they are hoping for warm weather and clear skis to further enhance the experience.
The Rydell National Wildlife Refuge will have several pairs of adult and child size skis, as well as snowshoes, available for visitors to use – free of charge, on a first come, first served basis. If you have questions or want more information, contact Gregg Knutsen, Refuge Manager, at 218-686- 4329 or gregg_knutsen@fws.gov.
