Herdina Construction Trades Camp Providing Industry Experience & College Credits for Students
Moorhead, MN — Get a jump start on a career in the construction trades industry and even earn college credits this summer by participating in the Herdina Construction Trades Camp at M State in Moorhead. The Herdina Construction Trades Camp was launched more than 20 years ago as a partnership between M State and the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead as a way to gain interest in the trades industry and help develop skills among students.
As part of the camp, students age 15 and up will spend two week working alongside contractors and industry professionals to learn about occupations, tools, safety requirements and skills required for a rewarding career in the construction trades, according to Camp Coordinator Brooks Pederson.
More so in recent years, this trades camp is also helping fill a major hole in students education as more and more schools do away with building trades offerings because of budget cuts and staffing shortages.
This year’s Herdina Construction Trades Camp will run June 5th – 9th and June 12th – 16th from 8am until 4:30pm. At just $100, Pederson says the camp is a huge bargain. It also opens students up to scholarships and earns them three college credits.
Space is limited to the first 24 students and Pederson estimates the camp is already a third to half full. For more information, visit Minnesota.edu/herdina-camp or call 701-232-5846.
