(Deerwood, MN) — Deerwood Police Chief Mark Taylor spoke at length of his Department’s work in the last month during the Deerwood City Council meeting from Monday, February 7th from the Deerwood Auditorium.

Chief Taylor first spoke about adding another squad car to their fleet.

A majority of the funds for the purchase of the squad car will come from a grant from Sourcewell. The hiring of more officers took a turn with one candidate pulling out of the hiring process with the Department remaining short staffed.

Chief Taylor also mentioned that he will participate in the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics again.

A report from the Ironton resident on two officers highlighted the above and beyond approach that ultimately saved lives.

Those two officers, Patrick Martin and Sgt. Jesse Smith, also took the initiative to purchase new carbon monoxide detectors and install them in the residence.

The Deerwood City Council is next scheduled to meet on Monday, March 7th at 6pm.
