Hillsboro School Board News & Notes from September 8th Meeting
Hillsboro, ND — The Hillsboro School Board held their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, September 8th where they went over the 2022-2023 budget and discussed long-term facility planning. As the district continues to look at their options to either renovate their current facilities or build a new school, the board had some discussions about a recent study that indicated their buildings would eventually require $18 million in updates to keep them up to date and meet future growth needs. Hillsboro Superintendent Paula Suda broke down some of those costs and their future maintenance needs.
With those numbers, Suda says its logical to think building a new school may be a cost-effective option, but there are other factors that will weigh in their eventual decision.
The Hillsboro School Board also held their annual budget hearing during their regular meeting and had no public comment, according to Superintendent Suda.
And with the school year roughly 3 weeks in, some staff reported that mental health problems continue to be a concern. Suda says the district is doing the best they can to help students through their struggles with their limited staff.
Suda also reported that enrollment in the Hillsboro School District is at 501 students to start the year, which is the same number as last year.
