OB Meeting with Essentia Spurs Controversy
City Council met in special session on Tuesday night in Fosston. Due to the overwhelming support, the city moved the location to the New Journey Church in Fosston. The meeting was held with Essentia West Market Executives to speak to the community about their plans to discontinue OB services at the Fosston hospital. Executives argue that safe births are no longer sustainable in rural healthcare. The OB taskforce as well as city administrator Cassie Heide had a presentation to explain their opposing view on the issue. One of the central points Cassie focused on was shedding light on the action the city has attempted to take towards re-instating OB care in the area:
Cassie and the rest of the taskforce have been working hard to re-instate OB in the area but have been met with nothing but challenges along the way. The taskforce states they have found multiple hires for the hospital but Essentia has failed to hire the available staff. One such case was with a local OB Nurse Manager who was no-showed twice for a job interview with lead staff in Fargo.
The fight to keep CORE services in Fosston is far from over, and the City of Fosston continues to advocate for these services in our area.
