Wheat Harvest Wrapping Up; Rest of Crops Continue to Improve with Heat and Rain

Ada, MN — On this week’s Farm and Field Show, Mike Nelson of West Central Ag Services joined R & J Broadcasting to provide a report on crop conditions and recent harvests. A majority of the area has now wrapped up their wheat harvest, which across the state is listed as 90% complete as of this week. Nelson says most producers are reporting an overall excellent crop for both yield and quality.

Sugarbeet prepile continues too in the Red River Valley. Nelson says as long as the beets continue to add some tonnage, that crop should be in at least average form come the main harvest campaign in October.

And for corn and soybeans, the key to their success may depend on a late frost. Nelson notes that the heat and rain is helping those crops catch back up after a late plant.

According to USDA Crop Progress report for Minnesota, corn is currently five days behind the five-year average and soybeans are 4 days behind the five-year average.
