FSA Reminds Livestock Producers of LIP Program Ahead of Extreme Winter Weather
Ahead of the most recent winter storm and extremely cold temperatures, FSA County Executive Director Nathan Peterson is reminding farmers and ranchers about their Livestock Indemnity Program. He notes the program provides benefits to livestock producers for livestock deaths caused animal attacks, but also specifically in this case adverse weather events such as blizzards and extreme cold.
Livestock Indemnity Program payments are equal to 75 percent of the average fair market value of the livestock.
Peterson also encourages producers to continue to keep up to date records, especially with calving season fast approaching.
